SAFARI ITINERARY IN DETAILS:
Day 1: Nairobi - Aberdare National Park
Arriving in Nairobi this morning you will then be transferred on to the Aberdare Country Club in time for lunch. Nestling along the slopes of Mweiga Hill, it provides a stunning setting to enjoy our first introduction to the African plains and it is just a short drive on from here to The Ark, where we will spend the evening in an African tree lodge. Set in the heart of the Aberdare National Park, this unique game lodge overlooks a floodlit waterhole and salt lick that attracts a wealth of wildlife, providing some superb vantage points and some unforgettable photo opportunities. (L, D).
Day 2: Aberdare National Park - Samburu National Reserve
Returning to the Aberdare Country Club this morning, we rejoin our vehicle and continue north, towards the stark desert scrub and open savannahs of Samburu National Reserve. On arrival we transfer to the Samburu Simba Lodge for a 2 night stay, after which you will enjoy an afternoon game drive through the park. Fed by the waters of the Ewaso Nyiro River, the park is home to a host of game animals and predators including reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, leopard and lions. (B, L, D)

Day 3: Samburu National Reserve
Lying in the heart of northern Kenya’s stunning natural landscapes, Samburu National Reserve includes parts of Mount Kenya National Park and is blessed with a rich diversity of habitats that encompass montane forests, grasslands and the meandering waters of the Ewaso Nyiro River. Home to the semi-nomadic Samburu, the reserve is refreshingly free of the tourist crowds and today you will enjoy a full day of game viewing. The river attracts a host of wildlife to its banks including herds of elephants and basking crocodiles, beisa oryx and long necked gerenuk, providing a spectacular backdrop to today’s activities. (B, L, D)
Day 4: Samburu National Reserve - Lake Nakuru
Turning south this morning, we drive next towards the waters of Lake Nakuru, lying amongst the breathtaking spectacle of the eastern Rift Valley. This shallow alkaline lake is famed for its prolific birdlife, regularly attracting millions of pink flamingos that turn its waters into a breathtaking spectacle of colour. Established as Africa’s first bird sanctuary back in the 1960s, Nakuru can boast an incredibly rich concentration of wildlife including over 500 species of birds, black and white rhino and even the endangered Rothschild giraffe. On arrival we check into the Sarova Lion Hill Lodge for an overnight stay. (B, L, D)
Day 5: Lake Nakuru - Lake Naivasha
After a morning game drive around Lake Nakuru, we continue along the Rift Valley towards the waters of Lake Naivasha, a fertile oasis that lies within the shadow of Mount Longonot. Lake Naivasha once played host to Joy Adamson, the naturalist and author who is probably best known for her book, ‘Born Free’, which described her experiences in raising Elsa, the lion cub who went on to achieve international fame. Today the area is renowned for its astonishing birdlife and this afternoon is free to enjoy this stunning setting at your leisure. Overnight at the Lake Naivasha Simba Lodge. (B, L, D)
Day 6: Lake Naivasha - The Masai Mara
A drive into the spectacular game lands of the Masai Mara today presents us with one of Africa’s most dramatic natural settings. Kenya’s greatest game reserve, these vast savannahs represent the northern extension of the majestic Serengeti plains and provide a rich hunting ground for lion, leopard, hyena and crocodiles. On arrival we will check into the Mara Simba Lodge for a 2 night stay, after which you will take an afternoon’s game drive through the park in search of the ‘Big 5’ and the abundant birdlife and animal life that thrives along the banks of the Mara and Talek Rivers. Teeming with life, the Masai Mara is with good reason considered one of Africa’s most spectacular safari destinations. These rich savannahs contain almost every species of wildlife to be found in East Africa and each year it explodes into life during the famous annual migration, when great herds of wildebeest and zebra make the hazardous journey across the Mara River towards fresh pastures. The heartland of the Masai people, this is Africa at its most magnificent and we’ll spend the day on morning and afternoon game drives, enjoying one of the greatest spectacles on earth. (B, L, D).
Day 8: The Masai Mara - Nairobi
After a chance for a final early morning game drive, we then begin the return trip to Nairobi where, on arrival, we will have the use of day rooms at the Nairobi Ole Sereni prior to our evening departure. Transferring to the airport later, we then depart on an overnight Kenyan Airways flight back home. (B)
